Gessato: PT's Mixteca 50/50 MWP Organic Coffee
A half-decaf treat for specialty coffee lovers
Founded in 1993 in Topeka, Kansas, PT’s Coffee has been making great coffee for more than 25 years. The company has received the Macro Roaster of the Year Award from Roast Magazine in 2009 and a coveted Good Food Award in 2013. If you want an introduction to the brand’s excellent offerings, their Signature Blend series is a perfect choice. More specifically, the Mixteca 50/50 MWP Mexico organic coffee beans that offer a half-decaf coffee experience with fantastic flavor. Sourced from the Mixteca village of Guadalupe Miramar in western Oaxaca, Mexico, the beans grow at an altitude of 5,900 feet.
To make this blend, PT’s sources beans grown by six different communities from the area. Processed at the Galguera Gomez mill, the beans are half washed and half decaffeinated using a Mountain Water Process. The 50/50 blend then undergoes roasting that takes the beans to a light-medium roast, enhancing their sweet, nutty notes. This results in a genuine, half-decaf Mexico organic coffee that keeps the amazing flavors of specialty coffee, but ensures you can get a good night’s sleep even if you drink a cup in the afternoon.
The Mixteca 50/50 MWP Organic coffee blend has some fantastic aromas. The main notes of molasses and roasted almond develop into pecan and blackcurrant. Slightly acidic, the body has clementine notes but ends with semi-sweet chocolate and coriander flavors. The Mixteca blend, like all of the other PT’s products, features gorgeous packaging. Carpenter Collective updated the company’s identity for their 25th anniversary with stunning branding that reflects PT’s dedication to hand-crafted products and connection to their Midwest roots. Available in the 12-ounce Signature Blend packaging, the PT’s Coffee Mixteca 50/50 MWP Organic coffee costs $17. The brand also offers the two types of beans separately.
