Supporting Coffee Farmers on World Bee Day!
Happy World Bee Day! This year, we're celebrating by participating in Food 4 Farmers' Coffee for Bees campaign—a fundraiser supporting coffee farmers who use beekeeping to not only strengthen their coffee crops, but also their communities.
Why bees? That's simple! They're a vital part of numerous ecosystems, "pollinating 1 in 3 bites of food we eat and 80% of the world's flowering plants," according to The Bee Conservancy. Bees are also an essential resource for growing healthier coffee-farming communities, from improving the quality of coffee crops and increasing overall environmental resilience and sustainability to providing coffee farmers with additional income streams and healthier diets.
Our longtime Direct Trade partner Juan Diego de la Cerda of Finca El Socorro is a great example of utilizing beekeeping for sustainable farm management at his Rainforest Alliance-Certified farm. He recently established an apiary at El Socorro to enhance biodiversity and help pollinate his coffee trees more effectively.
We’re excited to highlight five El Socorro coffees in honor of Coffee for Bees. Additionally, we’re showcasing Coffee Blossom Honey—a delicious honey from coffee farmer Jorge Mendez of Finca El Apiario!
Through the end of May, we’ll be donating to Food 4 Farmers as follows:
🐝 $2 for every jar of Coffee Blossom Honey, 10oz bag of El Socorro coffee, or El Socorro Sampler sold;
🐝 $3 for every 2lb bag of El Socorro coffee sold; and
🐝 $5 for every 5lb bag of El Socorro coffee sold.
