Coffee Review: 93 Points for Dilla Alghe Washed

Wow! We're thrilled to announce that Finca Santa Ana Dilla Alghe Washed has received 93 points from Coffee Review!

Coffee Review described it as "a lovely washed Guatemala cup with an especially vibrant body and a throughline of caramel apple and crisp baking chocolate."

We first had the pleasure of trying this coffee during our 2020 visit to Finca Santa Ana, one of our Direct Trade partners. It was there that our green coffee buyers cupped a table of exotic coffees from Nando Diaz's "garden"—a small, flat section of the farm near the house where he experiments with unique varietals. Dilla Alghe—a wild varietal discovered in southwestern Ethiopia—immediately stood out amongst the rest. After the positive cupping results, Nando planted a hectare of Dilla Alghe (~5,000 plants), and we patiently waited to see how it would fare. Despite its many challenges, Nando has found success growing the uncommon variety in Guatemala, and it's a real standout—delivering a coffee that's sweet, silky, and layered.

The 2024 harvest produced a handful of bags, including the two we now offer. This coffee is a traditional washed process where the harvested cherries spend one day in a receiving tank and are then depulped and fermented for about 48 hours before being washed and transferred to the patio to dry.

This process leads to a beautifully silky-sweet and delicate cup with notes of caramel, pineapple, and chamomile. Be sure to check out this unique limited offering before it's gone!
