Imported by our friends at Crop to Cup:

"This unique offering is the result of a collaboration with Mong Coffee, a small washing station in the Western Highlands. With funding and additional coffee processing knowledge provided by Crop to Cup, the members of Mong Coffee experimented with a prolonged 15-20 day shade-drying phase. The experiment paid off with an uncharacteristically balanced and sweet coffee that is sure to please."

The Coops of PNG

"Coops and other organized farmer groups are now producing impressive qualities, but their numbers are still low. Hundreds of disconnected languages are spoken across the Highlands, and historically there was not a lot of cooperation between villages, which are generally comprised of just one or a few families/clans. But when you do see coops, they are impressive.

"The examples of farmer organization we’ve seen in PNG often exceed that of many other established producer countries. Traceability has improved as well, and we can now access lots as small as 10-20 bags produced by only one or two families. This has helped to improve quality control and improve cup scores, which in turn empowers these smallholders to demand higher prices for their harvests."
