In 1958 Dr. Jorge Vides M.D. bought a piece of land named La Bolsa, located in La Libertad, Huehuetenango. He began to grow coffee until the entire farm was cultivated with Bourbon and Caturra varietals. In the beginning, he traveled on horseback to get to the farm, about 6 kilometers from the Interamerican Highway. He was eager to work the farm by cultivating, harvesting, and producing high-quality coffee. In 1984, Guatemala's National Coffee Association (ANACAFE) awarded Dr. Vides the "Outstanding Coffee Grower" award.

Since 1995, the farm—which now encompasses three separate plots—has been run by his daughter, Maria Elena Vides, and his grandson, Renardo Ovalle. This coffee was grown at Finca Las Terrazas, their third and newest farm, at altitudes of 1,700-2,050 masl.

Large parts of the farm are protected areas of wild forest, much of which is used to prevent soil erosion and reduce the plants exposure to winds. This is based on a permaculture model, with the intention of sustainability and respect for the environment, to try and recreate coffee’s natural habitat in high altitude forests.

Vides 58 is a network of farms in Huehuetenango operated by the Vides family. Their goal is to achieve sustainability in three areas:

Social: working together with neighboring communities to support the development of the region.

Agricultural: agronomists teach local farmers good agronomic practices, with environmentally-friendly priorities based on Rainforest Alliance standards.

Environmental: conservation of ecosystems by protecting wildlife, efficient use of water, and avoiding deforestation.
