Umoja 1800 Washed
Purple Grape, Graham Cracker, Lemon Balm
A beautifully sweet, syrupy cup from South Kivu. Aromas of purple grape and vanilla bean lead to graham cracker and date notes in the brewed cup. Lemon balm acidity mellows into an apricot and candied walnut-tinged finish.

From our friends at Mighty Peace Coffee:
"Umoja—Swahili for 'Solidarity'—is the product of the hard work of over 11,600 members in South Kivu. Coffee cooperatives like the ones we work with have helped provide stability in a region that is often fraught with coffee smuggling. For many of the members, coffee is a key source of income and helps promote rights for marginalized groups."
This fully washed lot undergoes a two-stage fermentation (12 hours dry, 24 hours wet) and is then dried to 10-12% moisture on raised beds, which can take from 12 to 21 days depending on weather conditions.
A Farmer’s Story:
"Victorina is one of the farmers who contributes to Umoja. She built a house, purchases clothes for her family, and feels secure in knowing that she now doesn’t need to travel to find a buyer, because that places her at risk of attack. Victorina is now able to pay for her children’s school fees as well as buy her own fields."
