All the coffees processed at the Karagoto wet mill are produced by smallholder members of the Tekangu Farmers Cooperative Society.

Nyeri County is home to thousands of smallholder farms on about half a hectare of land. Farmers typically grow coffee, maize, pasture for livestock, and other crops for selling or consumption. They are free to sell coffee cherries to whichever cooperative they choose, but in general will go to the nearest wet mill as they often lack motorized transportation. Cooperatives pay a minimum of 80% of the total sale price of the coffee to the farmers, and the remainder covers management costs of the cooperative societies.

Because quality and quantity is so important for both the farmers and the cooperatives' ability to sustain themselves, management at Tekangu and Karogoto are actively educating their members in order to improve agricultural practices at farm level, and have hired an agronomist to assist and train members.
