A juicy coffee that strikes a balance between bright and sweet. We found aromas of plum, red apple, and rich brown sugar. When sipped, a shortbread note joins bright flavors of blackberry and pink grapefruit. Look for lemon curd and sandalwood in the layered finish.

Gitura Coffee Factory is located in Iyego, Murang'a County. It was established in 1980 and rests on a 6-acre piece of land serving Gaite, Miakini, Giti and Mahuga villages. The Gitura Coffee Factory serves around 700 smallholders and is currently affiliated with the Iyego Farmers' Cooperative Society, which boasts a membership of over 7,000.

The local climate produces high-yield harvests of popular varietals, such as SL28 and SL34. The soil is volcanic, the altitude is high, and the rainy seasons come twice per year. Coop members get their seed stock from the Coffee Research Station and follow the guidelines set by the Coop’s Field Committee. Training programs and guidance are provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, setting the framework for producers to get high-quality harvests.

At the Factory, all harvested coffee cherry is pulped in reservoir tanks. After resting overnight, the cherries go through the traditional washed process and are soaked before being spread on raised drying beds. The coffee is frequently turned and sorted until it is ready to be stored and shipped for export.
