Layo Teraga Washed

A refreshing summer cup from Ethiopia with aromas of caramel, peach, and lemon iced tea. We found notes of black tea and peach alongside mellow graham cracker sweetness and bright lemon acidity. The floral finish features chamomile and black tea, inviting you to take another sip.

Located in Uraga Woreda, in the northern part of Guji Zone, the 1,814 smallholder members of Layo Teraga Cooperative grow coffee in gardens around their homes in semi-forested environments at a staggeringly high elevation of over 2,300 meters.
Founded in 1976, the coop has enabled its smallholder members to make a living producing coffee in Guji, where coffee prices have historically been lower than the neighboring Gedeo or Sidama zones because of a lack of market access. Our friends at Crop to Cup have been importing from Layo Teraga since 2021.
Farmers deliver cherries to the central washing station, where they are pulped and undergo a single fermentation spanning 45 hours. Drying takes about 12 days on raised beds.
