Our sister company, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, first purchased coffee from Anibal Sanchez Burbano in 2021 through the Colombia Cup of Excellence auction. His coffee had placed 2nd in his very first COE competition! Last year, we coordinated a direct purchase from his 5-hectare farm—this washed Gesha lot.
Here is Anibal's story, in his own words:
"My name is Anibal Sanchez Burbano, I am the owner of the La Siria farm in the municipality of Argentina, Huila, in the village of Las Toldas in the Alto Tolda sector, where I have Gesha coffee planted.
"The farm comes from my grandfather's inheritance to my father, and he, in turn, passed it on to my sister and me. It has always been a land cultivated with coffee and it always will be. During the time that my parents had it, the Caturra variety was cultivated, then we planted Gesha. We obtained the seed through a relative who was given it by an exporter that brought it directly from Panama, and from there we have produced this line of Gesha that we have here on the farm.
"We are very happy to know that this coffee came out very well in the Cup of Excellence. For me, it is an honor to represent Huila and the municipality of Argentina, and all the coffee producers in the municipality. This is an invitation to all producers to cultivate traditional coffees and start looking for alternatives such as specialty and varietal coffees so that we have a better benefit in paying customers."
Blue Label coffees may be available in 50g jars, 4oz pouches, or 8oz pouches, depending on coffee inventory and cost. These coffees are available whole bean only.
